The Schiefer Compressometer was developed by Herbert Schiefer at the National Bureau of Standards. This design was improved upon and is currently sold as the Frazier Schiefer Compressometer.

The original Schiefer Compressometer is no longer in production but the Frazier Schiefer Compressometer is an updated version of the original.
